Adidas is a German sportswear company based in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria. Adi Dassler founded it in 1949 after a split with his brother Rudolf, who started Puma. The company is listed on the Frankfurt exchange. Bjorn Gulden became chief executive in 2023. It sold the Reebok brand to Authentic Brands Group in 2022 to concentrate on the Adidas name.
The company makes footwear, clothing and accessories for football, running, training and lifestyle use. Lines include Ultraboost, Stan Smith, Superstar and Yeezy, the last of which ended in 2022. It also supplies kits to national teams and clubs.
Adidas sells through its own stores, online channels and retailers across the globe. It uses contract manufacturers, mostly in Asia. The group is listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange. Since 2023 the company has sold off remaining Yeezy stock and returned to a focus on football and running. Its main rival is Nike. The brand has long supplied balls for FIFA tournaments and sponsors several national teams.
