Apple

Apple designs and sells consumer electronics, software and online services. Its best known products are the iPhone, the Mac, the iPad, the Apple Watch and the AirPods. Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne founded the company in 1976.

The company writes its own operating systems, including iOS, macOS, iPadOS and watchOS. It also designs its own chips for these devices. Services such as the App Store, iCloud, Apple Music and Apple Pay run on top of the hardware and add recurring income.

Apple sells through its own retail stores, its website and carriers and resellers around the world. Developers publish apps to the App Store and follow the company's review rules. The headquarters, Apple Park, is in Cupertino, California. Tim Cook has been chief executive since 2011, when Jobs stepped down shortly before his death. Apple runs retail stores in many countries, and it often stresses privacy and security in its marketing. Its products work closely together, which keeps many customers inside its system.
