Netflix

Netflix is a subscription streaming service for films, series, documentaries and live events. Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph founded it in 1997 as a DVD rental service by mail. Streaming began in 2007, and the mail rental business was later closed.

The company produces a large share of what it shows. Series such as Stranger Things and Squid Game, along with many films, are made under the Netflix label. It also licenses titles from other studios and from producers in many countries.

Netflix is headquartered in Los Gatos, California. The service works on televisions, phones, tablets and computers. It added a lower-priced plan with ads, and it has expanded into games and live programming. Subscribers are spread across most countries in the world. Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters are co-chief executives. Netflix limited password sharing in 2023 and saw subscriber growth rise. It competes with Disney, Amazon, Apple and other streaming services, and it carries live sports events in some markets.
