Red Bull GmbH is an Austrian beverage company based in Fuschl am See. Dietrich Mateschitz launched the drink in Austria in 1987, building on a Thai tonic called Krating Daeng created by Chaleo Yoovidhya.
The company makes energy drinks sold in slim aluminum cans, with sugar-free and flavored editions. It does not run its own bottling plants for all markets and relies on contract fillers. Red Bull sells in over 170 countries.
The firm puts much of its budget into events and sport. It owns Formula 1 teams, football clubs such as RB Leipzig, and a media house that produces films and online video. It also runs extreme sports events, including cliff diving and air racing. The company also has a media arm, Red Bull Media House, based in Austria. Mateschitz died in 2022, and his son Mark holds his share. Competitors include Monster Energy and Celsius.
