Adobe makes software for design, photography, video and documents. John Warnock and Charles Geschke founded it in 1982. The company is based in San Jose, California.
Its Creative Cloud subscription includes Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects and InDesign. Acrobat and the PDF format belong to the document side of the business. Adobe Express offers simpler design tools for non-specialists.
A third area is marketing and analytics. Adobe Experience Cloud sells tools that businesses use to manage customer data, run campaigns and measure results. Firefly is the company's family of generative AI models, which are built into its apps. Adobe also owns Frame.io and Substance, which serve video and 3D artists. Shantanu Narayen has been chief executive since 2007. Adobe tried to buy Figma in 2022 but dropped the plan in 2023 after regulatory objections. Its software is common in design schools and studios, and many professionals learn its tools as a standard skill.
