Anthropic

Anthropic is an artificial intelligence company based in San Francisco. Siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei and several former OpenAI researchers founded it in 2021. It is organized as a public benefit corporation, and its stated focus is building AI systems that are reliable and safe.

Its main product is Claude, a family of language models. People use Claude through a chat app on the web and phones, and developers reach it through an API and through cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. Claude Code is a coding assistant that runs in a terminal.

Anthropic publishes research on interpretability, alignment and the societal effects of AI. It developed a training method called Constitutional AI, which guides model behavior with written principles. Amazon and Google are among its large investors. The company sells to businesses, governments and individual subscribers.
