Atlassian

Team collaboration and project tracking software

Sydney, AU Founded 2002 500+ employees

About

Atlassian makes software for teams that build products and manage work. Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar founded it in Sydney, Australia, in 2002. The company later moved its legal home to the United States.

Jira is its best known product and is widely used by software teams to track tasks and bugs. Confluence is a wiki for documents and team notes. Trello is a card-based board tool, and Bitbucket hosts code repositories. Jira Service Management handles IT and customer support requests.

Atlassian sells mainly through its website, without a large traditional sales staff. Customers pay for cloud subscriptions, and the company has moved away from self-hosted versions. The Atlassian Marketplace carries apps from outside developers. Offices are in Sydney and San Francisco, among other places. It was listed on Nasdaq in 2015 and moved to a US-based holding company in 2022. Scott Farquhar stepped down as co-chief executive in 2024, and Cannon-Brookes now leads alone. Atlassian also runs a large user conference called Team and keeps a remote-friendly workforce.
