Bloomberg L.P. is a financial information and media company based in New York City. Michael Bloomberg founded it in 1981 after leaving Salomon Brothers, and it began by selling market data terminals. He later served as mayor of New York and still owns most of the company.

The Bloomberg Terminal is a desktop system that gives traders and analysts live prices, news, analytics and messaging. It costs a monthly subscription and remains a standard tool in finance. Bloomberg also provides trading platforms, indices and data feeds.

The media arm includes Bloomberg News, Bloomberg Television, Bloomberg Radio, Bloomberg Businessweek and Bloomberg Opinion. Its journalists cover markets, economics and politics around the world. Bloomberg Philanthropies is Michael Bloomberg's charitable foundation. The company has offices in many countries, and the headquarters is on Lexington Avenue. Bloomberg has thousands of journalists and analysts worldwide. The firm sells data and tools to banks, asset managers and governments. Its website uses a paywall for much of its reporting, and Terminal subscribers also receive live news.
