Boeing is an American aerospace company. William Boeing founded it in Seattle in 1916. Its headquarters moved to Chicago in 2001, then to Arlington, Virginia, in 2022.
The commercial division builds airliners such as the 737, 747, 767, 777 and 787 Dreamliner. The defense unit produces military aircraft, helicopters and missile systems. Boeing also builds satellites and the Starliner crew spacecraft for NASA.
The company has faced a long period of scrutiny after two 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 and a door plug incident in 2024. Production sites include Everett, Renton and North Charleston. Boeing is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Commercial aircraft deliveries fell in recent years because of production issues and strikes. The company has had several leadership changes. Its main competitor is Airbus, and it has deep ties to NASA and the United States Department of Defense.
