A.P. Moller-Maersk is a Danish shipping and logistics company headquartered in Copenhagen. Captain Peter Maersk Moller and his son Arnold Peter Moller founded the shipping company in 1904. The group handles a large volume of container trade each year. It reports results in dollars. Its fleet is managed from Copenhagen, and its terminals are located in dozens of countries.
Maersk operates one of the largest container fleets in the world and moves cargo across ocean routes between most major ports. It also offers terminal operations through APM Terminals, plus warehousing, inland transport and customs services. The group has been building air freight and land logistics.
Maersk sold off its oil and tanker businesses to focus on transport and logistics. It has ordered ships that can run on methanol. The shares are listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen. It has also invested in terminals, warehouses and air cargo. Maersk Line and Hamburg Sud were combined in operations. Competitors include MSC and CMA CGM.
