BP is a British energy company headquartered in London. It began as the Anglo-Persian Oil Company in 1909 after oil was found in Iran, and it took the name British Petroleum later. It rebranded as BP in 2000. The group reports results in dollars. It employs tens of thousands of people and operates in dozens of countries. Its trading arm buys and sells crude oil, gas, power and other commodities.

BP was responsible for the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which led to major fines. It has changed its climate plans several times and has recently put more weight on oil and gas. The shares are listed in London. It owns stakes in wind projects.
