Saudi Aramco, formally the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, is the national oil company of Saudi Arabia. It is headquartered in Dhahran. The roots go back to 1933, when Standard Oil of California received a concession, and the Saudi government took full ownership by 1980.
The company produces crude oil and natural gas, and runs refineries and chemical plants. It owns the Ghawar field, one of the largest oil fields in the world. Its downstream arm includes Motiva in the United States and stakes in refiners in Asia.
Aramco listed a small portion of its shares on the Saudi stock exchange in 2019, in what was then the largest share sale on record. The Saudi state keeps a large majority. The company has been investing in hydrogen and carbon capture. Amin Nasser is the president and chief executive. The company runs the East-West pipeline and several export terminals. Its production capacity makes it a main source of crude oil for global markets.
