Electronic Arts is a video game publisher based in Redwood City, California. Trip Hawkins, a former Apple manager, founded it in 1982. In its early years it presented game designers as artists and credited them on the packaging.
The EA Sports label produces annual games such as FIFA, now EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, NHL and UFC. Other major series include The Sims, Battlefield, Need for Speed, Mass Effect and Apex Legends. The company also owns studios such as DICE, BioWare and Respawn Entertainment.
Much of its income now comes from live service content, including Ultimate Team card packs, which regulators in some countries have treated as gambling. EA Play is a subscription for older titles. In 2025 an investor group led by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners agreed to take the company private. Andrew Wilson has been chief executive since 2013. EA bought Codemasters in 2021. The company stopped using the FIFA name on its football games after its licensing deal ended in 2022, and the series is now called EA Sports FC.
