Fitbit is a maker of wearable fitness devices based in San Francisco. James Park and Eric Friedman founded it in 2007, and it went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2015. Google completed its purchase of the company in 2021. The Charge tracker became its best-known product. Fitbit also sold a Premium subscription and a smart scale called Aria. The company listed at 20 dollars a share in 2015 and later dropped in value.
Fitbit sells activity trackers and smartwatches that count steps, track sleep and measure heart rate. Its app shows trends and offers coaching and challenges. A paid Premium plan adds more detailed health insights.
The brand now operates within Google's devices and services division. Its device lines include Charge, Versa and Sense. Fitbit users have been moved over to Google accounts. At the time of the deal Fitbit had millions of active users. Google paid about 2.1 billion dollars. Competitors include Apple, Samsung and Garmin.
