About

General Electric was founded in 1892 through the merger of Edison General Electric and Thomson-Houston. Thomas Edison's electric company was one of its roots. It is headquartered in Evendale, Ohio, near Cincinnati. Its engine business is located in Ohio and has large sites in Massachusetts and Kentucky. The company reports results in dollars and uses a fiscal year that follows the calendar year.

For many decades GE ran businesses in power, appliances, finance, health care and media. It spun off GE HealthCare in 2023 and GE Vernova, the energy business, in 2024. The remaining company was renamed GE Aerospace in 2024.

GE Aerospace makes jet engines for commercial and military aircraft, including the CFM LEAP engine through a joint venture with Safran. It also offers engine services. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Larry Culp has led the company since 2018. GE Aerospace services engines in airline fleets worldwide, which gives it large service revenue. Competitors in engines include Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney.
