About

Lenovo is a technology company with main offices in Beijing and Morrisville, North Carolina. Liu Chuanzhi and a group of researchers founded it in 1984 in Beijing as Legend. The name changed to Lenovo in 2004.

In 2005 it bought IBM's personal computer division, including the ThinkPad laptop brand. This move gave it a global presence. Lenovo is now one of the world's largest PC makers by shipments.

The company sells ThinkPad business laptops, IdeaPad consumer models and Legion gaming machines. It makes tablets, workstations and smartphones, the last under the Motorola brand, which it bought from Google in 2014. Its Infrastructure Solutions Group builds servers and storage for data centers. Operations are registered in Hong Kong. Yang Yuanqing has been chief executive since 2009, apart from a short break. The company is listed in Hong Kong and has factories in China, India, Brazil and the United States. It also sells software and services for companies, and it makes the ThinkPad line used widely in offices.
