Notion is a workspace app that combines notes, documents, wikis and databases. Ivan Zhao and Simon Last founded Notion Labs in San Francisco. The product grew from an early version built in 2013, and a rebuilt release in 2016 gained a loyal following.
Pages are made of blocks that can hold text, images, tables, checklists and embedded content. Users link pages together and build databases that can be viewed as tables, boards, calendars or timelines. Templates help teams set up project trackers and knowledge bases.
Notion has free and paid plans for individuals and teams. It added Notion AI for drafting and summarizing, and later Notion Calendar and Mail after buying related apps. Students, startups and large companies use it as a shared place for documentation. The company competes with Microsoft, Google, Coda and Evernote. It has offices in San Francisco, New York and other places. Notion also has a large community of template creators, ambassadors and consultants who help teams set up their workspaces.
