Samsung Electronics is the main electronics arm of the Samsung group in South Korea. It was founded in 1969 and has its base in Suwon. The company is one of the largest makers of smartphones, televisions and home appliances.
The Galaxy line includes phones, tablets and watches that run Android and Samsung's own software layer. Its televisions, refrigerators and washing machines are sold in most countries. Samsung also makes display panels for its own products and for other brands.
The semiconductor division produces memory chips such as DRAM and NAND flash. It also runs a foundry business that manufactures processors for other companies. This part of the business supplies the memory used in many phones, computers and servers. It is part of the Samsung group, a family-led conglomerate that also includes affiliates in construction, insurance and shipbuilding. The company competes with Apple in phones and with Sony and LG in television. Its semiconductor results strongly affect the earnings of the whole business.
