ServiceNow sells cloud software that automates workflows inside organizations. Fred Luddy founded it in 2004 in San Diego under the name Glidesoft. The company changed its name in 2006 and now has its main office in Santa Clara, California.
Its first product helped IT departments handle tickets and service requests. The Now Platform has since grown to cover HR cases, customer service, security operations, procurement and facilities. Companies configure forms, approvals and automations without much custom code.
A large share of Fortune 500 companies use ServiceNow. The company has made acquisitions to add AI and data tools, and Now Assist adds generative AI to its workflows. Bill McDermott, a former SAP chief, has led it since 2019. It went public in 2012. The company has acquired firms such as Moveworks and Element AI to build up its AI offering. Customers include banks, hospitals, government agencies and universities. Its annual conference, Knowledge, draws a large crowd of customers and partners.
