Temu is an online marketplace launched in the United States in September 2022. It is owned by PDD Holdings, a company that also runs the Chinese shopping app Pinduoduo. The business lists its headquarters in Boston.
The app sells a wide range of low-priced goods, including home items, clothing, electronics, toys and tools. Many orders are fulfilled by overseas sellers and shipped directly to buyers. Temu relies on discounts, coupons and games inside its app to bring in shoppers.
It operates in North America, Europe, Australia and other regions. Changes in United States import rules in 2025 affected its shipping model, and it shifted to more local warehouses. The platform has faced reviews from regulators in several countries. The service competes with Shein and with AliExpress, which is owned by Alibaba. Marketing is a major expense, including ads during the Super Bowl. Its sellers are largely manufacturers in China.
