Figma is a design tool for user interfaces and digital products. Dylan Field and Evan Wallace started it in 2012, and the first public release came in 2016. It runs in a web browser, which made live sharing and editing between designers easy.
Several people can work in the same file at once and see each other's cursors. Designers build screens, link them into clickable prototypes and hand specifications to developers. FigJam is a whiteboard for brainstorming, and Dev Mode gives engineers code-ready details.
Adobe announced a deal to buy Figma in 2022, but regulators in Europe and the United Kingdom raised concerns and the companies dropped it in 2023. Figma went public in 2025. It is headquartered in San Francisco, and a large community shares templates, plugins and design systems. The service is free for individuals at a basic level, and paid plans add team features and admin controls. The Config conference is held each year. Figma also released tools for building websites and slide decks, and it has added AI features to its design tools.
