KFC, formerly Kentucky Fried Chicken, is an American fast food chain specializing in fried chicken. Harland Sanders began selling chicken at a roadside station in Corbin, Kentucky, in the 1930s and started franchising the concept in 1952.
The menu includes bone-in fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, tenders, sides and buckets for sharing. Sanders appears on the logo as Colonel Sanders. The recipe is said to use a blend of eleven herbs and spices.
KFC is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, which is based in Louisville, Kentucky, and also owns Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. The chain has restaurants in well over 100 countries and is especially large in China. Most locations are run by franchisees. Yum China runs the KFC business in mainland China as a separately listed company. The chain has also introduced menu items such as Zinger sandwiches and Original Recipe chicken. Its main competitors include Popeyes and Chick-fil-A.
