Privacy Policy
This policy explains what AfterJournal collects, why, and what you can do about it. If anything here is unclear, ask us.
What we collect
- Account details. Your name, email address, and anything you choose to add to your profile such as a bio, photo or links. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google, and nothing else.
- Content you submit. Posts, comments, business and job listings, and any images you upload.
- Newsletter email. Only if you subscribe.
- Technical data. Your IP address and browser user agent, used to count views, rate-limit abuse, and cap accounts per IP address. Comment submissions store the IP address they came from.
Why we collect it
To run your account, publish and attribute your work, review submissions, take payment for paid placements, stop spam and abuse, and send the newsletter if you asked for it. We do not sell your personal data.
Third parties
- Google Sign-In for optional social login.
- PayPal for payments. Card details go to PayPal directly and never reach our servers.
- Cloudflare Turnstile to tell humans from bots on public forms.
- Google AdSense may serve advertising on some pages and may set its own cookies.
- Bugsnag receives server-side error reports, which can include the URL and the account id involved.
Cookies
We set a session cookie so you can stay signed in, and we store your light or dark theme choice in your browser. Advertising cookies, where ads are shown, are set by the ad provider rather than by us. Blocking cookies will sign you out but will not otherwise break the site.
Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link and supports one-click unsubscribe in your mail client. Unsubscribing is immediate. Account and review notifications are operational, not marketing, and are sent while you hold an account.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep account and published content for as long as your account exists. You can ask us to delete your account and personal data by contacting us. Published posts may be retained in an anonymised form where removing them would break the archive.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us and we will action it.
